Melbourne Stars' opening batter Joe Clarke got lucky as one of his shots during their contest against Melbourne Renegades in Big Bash League (BBL) 2023 was signalled six despite not clearing the boundary.
The twin teams took each other at roof-covered Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday. During the match, a surprising decision was witnessed when Clarke hit the ball hard and it went straight up and touched the roof.
Without thinking twice, the umpire signalled this shot for a maximum.
The video gained massive attention on social media as fans criticised BBL management for this rule.
Renegades, while batting first against Stars, posted 162-7 in 20 overs. Sam Harper scored 51 runs whereas Jonathan Wells smashed 44 off 24.
In reply, Clarke gave a befitting start to Stars by scoring 59 runs but couldn't take his team over the victory line. Stars fell seven runs short of 163-run target.
